Westside ENT and the COVID-19 Pandemic

Unfortunately, the emerging COVID-19 crisis has resulted in significant changes to our practice at WestsideENT.

In keeping with national regulatory rules governing ENT surgeons, WestsideENT has regrettably had to limit the way we operate our practice.

These regulations have been put in place by the federal government and ASOHNS, the national governing body of Australian ENT Surgeons. This has resulted in a broad ranging reduction in permissible ENT care in Australia.

These regulations apply to all ENT surgeons. They are designed to protect Australians and their healthcare workers and reflect the high risk of COVID-19 infection faced by ENT surgeons, especially during endoscopic examinations of the nose or throat.

The regulations apply to both the public and private sector. They restrict appointments in both ENT outpatient departments and private rooms and ban non urgent or elective ENT surgery in both public and private hospitals.

WestsideENT surgeons can now only see new or existing patients in person in extremely limited circumstances. During these interactions, our surgeons are required to use personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gowns, gloves, masks or face shields.

We remain committed however, to providing a service for our patients, our GP colleagues and our local community.

Patient care is important to us so WestsideENT will continue to assist GP’s with phone advice and support, to help care for our shared patients. We will also provide Telehealth consultations where possible.

To facilitate a Telehealth consultation with one of our surgeons, please:

  • Forward a referral via email (info@westsideent.com.au); fax (07 3202 4475) or via our website.
  • Our surgeons will triage referrals and contact the patient to offer a Telehealth consultation in the first instance.
  • Patients can also call Westside ENT (07 3202 4636) to make an appointment.

If you are new to our practice, please visit our website prior to your scheduled Telehealth consultation to complete the new patient registration form. This form can be completed online or downloaded, completed and returned by email or fax.

Our phones, fax and email will remain in operation as usual.

We would like to reassure you that care for patients with head and neck cancer or patients who need urgent procedures will still proceed. WestsideENT will facilitate the care of such patients via the ENT Department at Ipswich Hospital, where all WestsideENT Consultants continue working as part of the Qld Health response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

WestsideENT looks forward to recommencing our full range of ENT services once the pandemic emergency has passed.
